Baby High Chairs - So Many To Choose From At Feeding
Time
When shopping for baby
high chairs there are several things to keep in mind. In fact,
these things should be decided before you ever leave the house
or log on to the internet. Is this high chair going to be used
for one child or several? What do you want it to be made of?
What's more important to you, appearance or ease of use and
clean-up? How many extra features are you looking for and are
you willing to pay extra for them? One factor that is never up
for debate is safety.
If you want your high chair to last through several
children, you'll need to make sure it is a quality high chair.
Admittedly, each child will not be using it that long, but a
cheap high chair will still wear out. I'm not saying that a low
cost chair will not last, just know that there is a possibility
that you will be doing some minor repair work.
You can get baby high chairs in both wood and plastic. Most
people choose plastic. Generally it's easier to clean and is
more durable. Wood however has its advantages too. A wooden
high chair can be a very nice piece of furniture and an elegant
part of your dining room or kitchen. Wood high chairs can also
become heirlooms, being passed down from generation to
generation. Some will come without cushions. However we always
recommend getting a cushion for it anyway. They can be easily
removed and cleaned. Naturally a vinyl cushion will clean
easier than a cloth one.
What kind of features do you want? If you have a busy house,
we recommend getting ones where the tray can easily be removed
with one hand and safely placed in the dishwasher. If you don't
get this and have several small children, you'll soon be
wishing you did. Other features to consider are divided trays,
wheels for easy mobility, height adjustments, reclining seats,
and seats that convert into booster seats as your child gets
older. Again, figure out which of these features is important
to you before you go shopping for a baby high chair.
What about space? Some high chairs are huge while others are
designed to save space. Still others will fold up for easy
storage. So how much space do you have and do you want to leave
your high chair out all the time when your child is small. If
you are going to leave it out, you'll probably want to select a
style that matches your decor in the kitchen or dining
room.
A more recent addition to baby high chairs is entertainment.
Yes some chairs even have little toys built on to both teach
and entertain. Some parents love them. Others don't want their
child distracted during meal time. Which is best for you?
We mentioned safety earlier. You want to make sure your high
chair is safe. Some offer 5 point safety restraints. I probably
don't need to tell you that there are many accidents every year
because a child has wiggled his way out of his high chair or
escaped the restraints. It goes without saying that your baby
should never be left unattended in his high chair. If you must
leave the room, remove your baby from the chair first.
